REMEMBERING MY FATHER DADHISH CHANDRA ASTHANA,
The other day, I found my father, Dadhish Chandra Asthana's one of the rare pictures from the archive. In the picture, he is standing at extreme right place in the third row from the bottom. This picture was taken 71 years ago in 1955.
Today, 18 March 2026, he would have been 126 years old.
My father was born on 18 March 1905 in the district of Kheeri Lakhimpur (UP). He lost his father ( Saheb Ram) at the age of 14. He was the third son out of five brothers and one sister. He supported the family by taking tutions in the morning, teaching at a school during the daytime. In the evening, he studied law at Lucknow University. After completing his LLB, he started practising law under the guidance of his mama ( maternal uncle) at Basti (UP). He practised law for 20 years in Basti.1929-1949. Then he practised law for another 19 years in Allahabad from 1949 to 1968. where he saw many ups and downs. After that, we moved to Delhi.
My father was a great orator, delivered motivating speeches during II WW at various political platforms, a great patriot. Ex-PM Lal Bahadur Shastri was his classmate. But my father never joined active politics.
My father was a brilliant lawyer, gifted orator. He was a man of deep learning, who studied English, Urdu and Persian at graduation level. He learnt Hindi reading with his mother, "RAMCHARITMANAS" (a famous scripture written by Goswami Tulsidas).
