Van Mahotsav, is an annual tree-planting festival in India celebrated from 1--7 July. It was launched in 1950 by the then Union Minister for Agriculture and Food, Shri K. M. Munshi. The week-long celebration aims to raise awareness about the importance of forests and to encourage tree planting to increase India's green cover.
