One Flower Sermon by Gautam Buddha to Mahakashyap his principal disciple

There is a story from the life of Buddha and Mahakashyap. One day, Buddha came to the evening sermon with a flower in his hand. It was a special flower, a very rare flower that had bloomed out of season. And the person who found it turned down the king and the chief minister of the kingdom so that he could give it to Buddha.

Buddha brought the flower to the sermon, and instead of speaking, stayed silent. 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 2 hours ... even the senior students became confused and frustrated. People who had come to see him from far and wide were confused beyond measure. Why does Buddha not speak? What should we do? Should we speak up? Should we ask him if he does not want to speak today?

Buddha kept looking at the flower. And suddenly a burst of loud laughter was heard ... it was Mahakashyap. He understood that Buddha had been teaching them all to find wisdom in silence, but when he demonstrated it, everyone got frustrated. The paradox made him laugh out loud. Buddha then invited Mahakashyap to the fore of the gathering and gave him the flower.  Mahakashyap became its first steward.
The flower sermon is the story of the origin of Zen Buddhism, in which Gautam Buddha transmits direct wisdom to the disciple Mahakashyapa.

A Game to help hyperactive and energetic children become mindful.

One of the ways to make children connect with their breath is to include it in games. Simple everyday games may have a component of awareness. In that way, children understand the value of presence because it immediately enhances their performance. Here is an example.
A game to help hyperactive and energetic children become mindful.
Have the players (kids of all ages ) stand on one leg, with their eyes closed. Notice that closing our eyes is one of the things we do when starting meditation. Now ask them to connect with their breath and stand for as long as possible on one leg. The person who stands the longest demonstrates presence with their body. The goal is to use competition as a means to help hyperactive and energetic children become mindful.         Meditate to become mindful.                                                                                                                                                                                     Keep Meditating                 Write-up by NEERA

Under The Layers of I, My, Mine, there is Me-ditation

It is a common feature that people most of the time talk about themselves( I) or their possessions ( MY-MINE). But most of us trust authentic and compassionate people. People become authentic when they see themselves as they are and accept themselves as they are. Meditation brings about this change. Meditation has an inbuilt word ME. Salute to meditation. Every moment of every day

Be A Meditator- A moment of peace will throw you into ocean of happiness

Every morning when we start our day. Scores of things cross our minds. Today I have to do this, this, this. Then comes a wave saying, I will do everything at my pace. This momentary thought brings peace. Then the whole day is spent in blissfulness. All the intended works are done, with no stress.
A moment of peace throws us into the ocean of happiness. Meditate to achieve that moment of peace.                                                           Keep Meditating                Write-up by NEERA

Be A Meditator- Do it with all your heart

Whatever you choose to do, do it with all your heart. If your heart is not in your work, then the output would be meagre. If you look at it with input Vs output when you don't feel like doing it. The time consumed will be much larger than the ultimate achievement. Observe your breath to remain focused on the task at hand. Breathe, receive and relax.                                                                                                                                                          Keep Meditating               Write-up by NEERA

Meditation peels away layers of unknown

As we continue to meditate, the layers of the unknown start unfolding like peels of an onion.
Ultimately, we reach the core. Sometimes we need to relocate our centre. Meditation helps in relocating it.

Be A Meditator- My breath fills me with awareness

When we enter the house we live in and walk across to our favourite corner. We pass by many things. Some people notice them, whereas for others, it just runs like a moving screen. The little boy in the infographic says, "My breath fills me with the awareness of every other shade that exists between black and white". When we observe our breath, we become aware of the things we come across or pass by. Awareness is enhanced by observing our breath.                                                                                                                                                                   Keep Meditating

Be A Meditator- Meditation is quietening of human noise to gain deeper insight

'Meditation is quietening of human noise', so say all the revered teachers. When we start meditating, all physical activities are supposed to have stopped, and only the mind is active. The mind is very complex and very tricky. It makes simple things complicated. How can we get detached from the tricks of the mind?  We can start with awareness.  Awareness of every part of our body culminates in quietening of the mind. The body starts relaxing, and we are no longer attached to the mind. Then we may see some miracles of awareness. That is, without saying anything, without doing anything, it simply dissolves all that is negative in us into all that is beautiful. Like a wonderful opportunity to MEET a deeper insight.                                                                           Keep meditating

Spiritual Search is like a jump into the Unknown

Sometimes we come across events such as sky divers jumping down from a helicopter. Before the jump, it is impossible to know that you will be safe and it will be thrilling; similarly, the spiritual search is an adventure walking into the unknown terrain. It is natural to be fearful when we encounter the unknown. A new adventure, a new idea, a new realization that shifts old thinking and we can hesitate to continue our journey. Meditation helps us see our experience clearly and this helps us continue to make progress. Keep Meditating.

Nothing remains same from one moment to another.

Most of us spend our lives collecting the choicest of things. Hold on to the people and possessions we love. Some of us think adventure is risky. It is sometimes hard to cross that bridge, try something new, or make that change, but once we do, we realise that things are usually never as bad as we imagine. However, nothing remains the same from one moment to another. We must learn to change as life changes. Regular practice of meditation can help us realise it.                                                                                                                                                                           Keep Meditating

Embrace our worries, our fear, our anger

It's true, no one ever solved a situation by panicking. No one ever solved an issue by refusing to hear new answers, no one ever solved a problem by shutting themselves off. Anger, fears and worries are nothing more than an outward expression of hurt and frustration created in our minds. If we can take charge of our minds, we can create blissfulness. Meditation can help us embrace our fears, anger, and worries.                                                                                       Keep Meditating

Be A Meditator- Accept this moment exactly as it is

Think of a drive-through of an unknown terrain. We always manage to steer clear of whatever comes our way. In the present times, even the GPS is not able to tell if there is any ditch on the road or if the road is blocked, maybe because of some repair work. At such junctures, we are unable to drive on. We have to just wait and be patient and do the needful. In the same way, we should accept this moment as it is. Observe our breath as we drive through this moment.                                                                                                                                                             Keep Meditating

The Ungoverned Mind is the seed of Misery

Have you seen some children picking up things and throwing them, or tearing pages of new books, or writing on the completed homework of their siblings?. It's a common sight in some of the houses.
Why do children do this? The child does not know what he is supposed to do. His mind is still not channelled.  The same thing happens with elders if their minds are ungoverned. They end up doing or saying weird things. Meditation can help in focusing and channelling your thinking process.
